West Texas

Dust cloud, living,
Throughout, an iron pulse
Marrow sucked from earthen bone.
Desert acrobats-
Bounding everywhere and nowhere at all-
With callous indifference
Murdered by the dozen
On tarmac ribbon,
Stretched ramrod sky to sky,
In freshly spindled snow.
Here and there among the drifts,
Of bedsheets to be.
